Winter Paint Out

The Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary www.jugbay.org  is a big place, so please take time to read this. For this paint out we have arranged access to the River Farm but you can also choose to access the Sanctuary from the Visitors Center.

The River Farm features old fields, mowed and unmowed, two Tobacco Barns  an outbuilding and a small house. All surrounded by mature woods and there are also views of the Patuxent River. For your convenience there is a Port a Potty. It is a great place to paint. Please park your car at the end of the dirt road near the Care Takers House, keep driving, you will see it. I will be at the River Farm in the morning and probably in the afternoon too, so come there if you want to hang with me. You can go to my website, www.garypendleton.com and look for paintings of red barns and outbuildings to see what the River Farm looks like.

For those who choose the area around the vistors center there are panoramic views of the Patuxent River from the Overlook and more intimate views of the River from the Marxh Boardwalk, both accessible on foot. We have also arranged for a golf cart and driver to transport you to 2 spots from the Vistors Center. One is Otter Point, which offers views looking up the mouth of Two Run Creek or out to the Patuxent. The other is the Viewing Blind off of the Rail Road Bed Trail, which puts you well out into the Marsh, surrounded by water. The Golf Cart wil be available to take you to your painting destination and pick you up for lunch or at the end of the day.

Alos, for those willing ot explore , there are many interior forests scenes that can be accessed on foot from either area.

At 12:30 we will meet for Lunch at the Vistiors Center, bring your own. Then at 5 PM we will be back at the Vistors Center for a Show and Tell and a hot cider.

Go to www.jugbay.org to learn more about Jug Bay and to get a feel for the place. The website has directions too. Note: your GPS will only get you so far, especially if you plan to go to the River Farm, be sure to print your directions.

SPECIAL NOTE: Do not confuse the Jug Bay Wetland Sanctuary in Anne Arundel County with The Patuxent River Park, which is across the River in Prince Georges County. Also, note your registaration fee will cover the entrance fee, I will try to make sure that the staff understands that. But please do not call the Sancuary with question about the Paint Out. You can call me if you really need to, 410-286-3291 or email me  because I am sure that I have left something out, at grp@chesapeake.net.

Remember to dress in layers,

Gary Pendleton
