PLEIN AIR INVITATION TO ARTISTS

Columbia Art Center Plein Air Paint Out and Exhibition Celebrating Columbia’s 50th Birthday

September 9, 2017

Columbia Art Center, Columbia MD is proud to present Color Columbia: Plein Air Paint Out and Exhibition in association with Columbia’s 50th Birthday Celebration. We would like to invite you to participate in this outdoor painting celebration.

Plein Air artists will set up along Lake Kittamaqundi and Wilde Lake to paint in the open air. Lake Kittamaqundi is at the heart of Columbia’s downtown. The 27-acre manmade lake, the boathouse, boardwalks, and bell tower link to plazas, the iconic People Tree, and restaurants creating varied locations to paint. From Lake Kittamaqundi there is an extension path that takes you to Wilde Lake which has stone outbuildings dating back to the 1800s and the reflections of white washed residences.

While in Columbia, enjoy the restaurants and Whole Foods. Clydes, one of the restaurants, is a Columbia institution known for crab cakes. Columbia Mall is accessible from the lake by an overpass walking bridge.

Members of the public will be invited to walk the lakes and tour the painting sites as artists create their visions of Columbia’s downtown and lake areas. An exhibition of resulting works will be held at Columbia Art Center Galleries, September 16-30, with a gala reception September 16, 3-5pm. All completed works will be eligible for judging. Sales are optional. There will be more than $3000 in awards presented during the opening reception.

We look forward to your participation in this art event which we believe will honor Columbia's 50th birthday, celebrate Columbia’s landscape through living art, entertain and expose visitors to the creative process, and reward artists with recognition.

Thank you for your consideration of this invitation. We would be truly honored to have you participate.
