  • Don't miss this Source to Studio Demonstration, with contemporary master, Joshua Been!

Award winning Southwest painter from Colorado, and world renowned teacher, Joshua Been will be making a rare east coast appearance. On Saturday, May 6th.

Been will demonstrate his highly disciplined source (plein air) to studio approach from 10-3 for only $25.00
Come sit back, relax, and take notes as Been thoroughly explains his 4 pronged approach to Visual Language.

As the author of two books, Been will paint, in oils, with a large marker board next to him in order to explain, in depth, the nuance and factors effecting Value, Shapes, Edges, and Texture.

In translating the world around us, starting on-location, he's famous for using a pre-sketch system he developed.

Been will explain an invention of his, the light direction sphere, which helps inform the language of Shape within the pictorial confines, in the line of sight.

He'll spend time explaining the factors effecting Value.

From atmosphere, to intensity of the source of light, and the local color of objects, this prong of Visual Language, will go in depth.

Few painters can describe the defining patterns of Linear Perspective and how this is effectively and efficiently translated to the canvas like Been can.

How and why we see Edges, the 3rd prong of Visual Language will be broken down.

Texture, from brushwork to paint quality, the 4th prong, is the summation of finishing touches.

As if all this wasn't enough, Been will talk about marketing, and being a billboard for your career while painting on-location. How to build future collectors through engaging viewers, selling off the easel, and sharing the experience with curious folks, are just scratching the surface!
