Artists from around the region will take to the streets of Old Ellicott City beginning July 8 to participate in the plein air paint-out event, Paint It! Ellicott City. En plein air, meaning “in the open air,” is the technique of painting outdoors, directly from life. Often, groups of plein air artists will gather within stated boundaries for a “paint-out.” The Howard County Arts Council, Howard County Tourism, and the Ellicott City Partnership are presenting the paint-out weekend that culminates in an exhibit at the Howard County Center for the Arts (HCCA).
Pull out your sketchbook or set up your easel alongside other artists and paint the town en plein air! Paint one or all three days of the paint-out and display your artwork on reception night at the Howard County Center for the Arts. Following that the artwork will travel to the new Howard County Welcome Center in Old Ellicott City.
