Plein Air Paint Out: Public places and Private Gardens in New Castle, Delaware

Dates:  Wednesday 5/18/11  to Saturday 5/21/11

Event: Day in Old New Castle held on 5/21/11

This is the oldest Home and Garden Tour in the US having gone on for close to eighty years.  23-25 private gardens will be open to the public.  Most of them will host artists who if they choose to paint a garden will be assigned to one.  Also, the historic town is situated on a scenic stretch of the Delaware river.

Features: Works completed by Friday must be framed and delivered for hanging at the Academy Building on the green in the center of town on 3rd St. by 3pm.  These works will be displayed at the same time as a traditional silent auction from 5pm Friday evening until 5pm Saturday evening.  There will be an opening cocktail party on Friday from 5pm-8pm.  Artists will be invited to the reception.

On Saturday, additional works can be delivered between 10am-3pm.  There will be a 20% commission on sales to benefit Immanuel Episcopal Church which is hosting the event and the New Castle Flower Beautification Committee.

Gallery transfer:  It will be possible to transfer unsold art work to an in town gallery after the show on Saturday. The commission will be 30% and the length of time can be negotiated by the artist.
