7 am to 7 pm
Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association (GFAA)
Invites you to a plein air day in the Stock Arboretum at the John Poole House 19923 Fisher Avenue, Poolesville
Owned and operated by Historic Medley District, Inc. the local historic preservation organization, the one-acre garden includes a herb garden and collection of plants indigenous to the area before 1850. The John Poole House, a log building from the 1790’s, is a general store museum.
The gardens and house will be open from 7 am to 7 pm with the suggestion that you paint either in the morning or afternoon and enjoy a lunch break either before or after your painting session at one of the many local restaurants or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the garden.
The adjacent Old Town Hall (Poolesville Museum), will also be open for at least half a day for viewing. Both the JPH and Old Town Hall have restroom facilities and are air-conditioned. The Arboretum has lots of shade. You can also paint anywhere in Poolesville while using the Arboretum as your base of operations.
Parking at the Arboretum is limited so plan to unload equipment in the museum parking lot and move your car to a nearby free parking place of which there are many throughout the town. Seating is also limited (a few garden benches) so plan to bring a chair or to sit on the ground.
If weather is inclement, Friday, August 5 will be the rain day.
The event is free, but GFAA suggests a donation in the HMD, Inc. box would be a kindly gesture.
