TGIF Paint Out!

When:  Friday, August 13, 2010 from 9:00 am to whenever

Where:  Huntley Meadows Park   3701 Lockheed Blvd, Alexandria, VA

What:  A beautiful park with trails, marshland, a boardwalk, and an observation tower.

Your host:  Carol Fogelsong 703-598-1441

For those of us who are retired, self-employed, working a compressed schedule, or just too darn busy on the weekends, here’s an opportunity to participate in a Friday Paint Out!  Huntley Meadows Park is a lovely park in Fairfax County, Virginia, just off of Route One.  There are plenty of opportunities for painting trees, sky, water, and wildlife.  Here’s where you can find out more about this hidden gem: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntley/

Let’s get together on Friday morning to paint this beautiful area and enjoy a picnic lunch together and maybe even an informal critique session!  This will be a low-key event, so come when you can and stay as long as you like.  Bring a bag lunch and many bottles of water and we’ll gather at 12 for a picnic.  No need to register or respond to this email, just come on out!

Practical information:

Admission is free, but there is a place inside the visitors center to make a donation, if you wish.

The Visitor’s Center has good bathrooms, a gift shop, water fountain, and air conditioning

Parking is free too.

I’ve spoken to the manager and they would love to have us come and paint.  Please be aware that the boardwalk is rather narrow.  If you wish to set up there, please make sure you do not block access for others.  Same goes for the observation tower.

The trails are well marked, firmly graded, and very easy for most physical types.

It will be hot, so bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Paint Out is Rain or Shine!  If it rains, there is good cover under the trees.

When you get there, take a cruise around the park and see what it has to offer.  Please introduce yourself to me, Carol Fogelsong.  I’ll be wearing a red MAPAPA baseball hat.

The Visitor’s Center has a nice exhibit space, so this could be the site of a future MAPAPA show!

Can’t make it this Friday?  Sorry that this is short notice, but I’m hoping that this will become a regular event.  I chose this Friday, because I’m sick and tired of painting indoors because of the heat!  Hope to see you on Friday!
